If you want a handle on some of the most exclusive luxury vodkas on the market today, then look no further than this guide, my friends.

We’ve sourced five of the best, most luxurious bottles out there, from those that embody the best standards for purity and flavour to those that only the richest in the world could afford.

DIVA Premium Vodka

$100 to $1,000,000 per 750 ml bottle

Produced by Blackwood Distillers in Scotland, DIVA Premium Vodka is known not only for being an excellent spirit, but also for its unique marketing hook. Inside every bottle of DIVA is a hollow wand that contains a selection of fine jewels and gemstones. A standard off-the-shelf bottle contains 64 cubic zirconia crystals -- among them Scottish smoky topaz, pink tourmaline, sky blue topaz, London blue topaz, amethyst, citrine, and Peridot -- or 72 Swarovski crystals.

More premium bottles can be customized to include a selection of the rarest gems imaginable. Clients are invited to call the DIVA team to arrange a consultation and the group will do all the legwork to source out only the finest gems. Not surprisingly, no two bottles of DIVA Vodka are identical.

DIVA Premium Vodka is triple-distilled and made with the finest spring water. This luxury vodka is first filtered through the finest Nordic birch charcoal and -- as if that weren’t enough -- then through a fine sand of crushed diamonds and gemstones. The result is a product filtered down to 0.5 microns -- a standard of purity that few luxury vodkas can match.

On the tongue, this luxury vodka tastes clean and fresh. It’s very smooth on the palate, with a gentle and distinguished finish. Not surprisingly, DIVA Premium Vodka was judged “extraordinarily smooth with a long, luscious finish” by judges at the World Spirits Festival in Austria and “vodka with attitude” by judges at the San Francisco Spirits Competition.

Snow Queen Vodka

$70 per 750 ml bottle

Snow Queen Vodka isn’t the best-known brand of vodka -- and that’s exactly what its manufacturers want. In fact, Snow Queen is so rare that it’s marketed only by word of mouth.

Made in Kazakhstan from organic wheat -- grown in the Russian Steppes, along the heart of the Silk Route in Eastern Europe -- and artesian spring water from the foothills of the Himalayas, the distillers use only Kazakh birch charcoal in their distillation process to produce one of the purest and smoothest vodkas in the world.

This is the super-premium bottle of vodka in Moscow. It is also highly decorated, with 10 gold, seven silver and eight bronze medals for excellence. Imbibe Magazine called it the Best Overall Vodka in April 2007.

Kauffman Vodka

$150 per 750 ml bottle

It’s rare to hear spirit distillers speak of vintages, a term typically reserved for vintners. But this is indeed the niche that Kauffman Vodka has carved out for itself.

Russian businessman Mark Kaufman wanted to develop a brand of his country’s national spirit that would rank among the best in the world. He set out to create an exclusive, luxury brand of vodka that could stand on the same footing as some of the world’s finest wines, Cognacs and whiskies.

We have two more luxury vodkas for you to sample…

The result is Kauffman Vodka. Produced in one of Russia’s top distilleries, every step of this vodka’s production process is strictly controlled and only the highest standards are kept in mind. Kauffman Vodka is filtered through birch charcoal columns and quartz sand. Some bottles are distilled as many as 14 times for the purest flavour, while other Kauffman’s are distilled a mere eight times (note that some of the upper-end commercial vodkas boast between three and five distillation processes). The result of all this hard work is a soft, subtle and delicate drink with a faint scent of roasted bread crust and slight taste of mint.

What sets Kauffman Vodka apart, however, is the fact that it is the world’s first spirit produced only in vintage years. This bottle is produced only in years when the wheat crop is at its best and, even then, it’s created in tiny batches to ensure quality.

Kauffman Vodka is a new arrival on the scene -- it has only been produced since 2000 -- but it has been a rousing success nonetheless. Already, Kauffman is known as one of the best brand names on the market. In 2004, this luxury vodka won two of three gold medals in the International Wine & Spirit Challenge.

Ultimat Vodka

$140 per 750 ml bottle

Not to be outdone by their Russian counterparts, the Poles also have had a hand in producing one of the finest luxury vodkas on the market.

The Ultimat Vodka experience begins with its handsome, hand-blown cobalt blue and clear-crystal bottle with a unique crystal and cork stopper. It takes craftsmen 24 hours to produce a single bottle, so right off the bat, you know that you’re in for an experience.

The Ultimat master distiller in Poland monitors every step of the production process and personally guarantees all the elements of the spirit. The drink is produced from a blend of potato, wheat and rye -- the only vodka in the world to combine these ingredients -- for a taste that is velvety smooth and rich, with a pleasant, subtle and clean aftertaste.

Even Ultimat’s distillation process is like no other. The distillers boast a ceramic and candle-filtration processes that allegedly eliminates all impurities.

Gold Flakes Supreme

$60 per 750 ml bottle

Gold has long been associated with success, which is the hook behind this brand of luxury vodka.

Gold Flakes Supreme is a French vodka, and the latest luxury product to contain edible gold flakes. Made from quadruple-distilled, crystal-clear underground spring water, this bottle contains only the best all-natural ingredients. The result is a fine, crisp spirit that stands up to the best luxury vodkas in the world.

After distillation, producers add flakes of 24-karat gold, which help add a serious touch of elegance to any cocktail evening.

While Gold Flakes Supreme is great for any special occasion, it’s a particular winner in a martini glass that accentuates the gold flakes.

Water of life

These are five of the best bottles of luxury vodka on the market today -- and we call them that with good reason. Hailing from all parts of the world, they each embody the highest standards for quality and excellence. Merely being seen with a bottle of any of these will show off your status as a man who knows his vodka.
